  • Inner Canals

BRUGES Bruges saw its heyday in the 14th-century when it was one of the more important trading cities in northern Europe. Ships from all over the world stopped here to sell their exotic goods.

  • Belfry

BRUGES First and foremost on everyone's list of things to see in Bruges is its iconic belfry. The tower rises high above the centuries-old buildings and is visible from all over town (as you'll soon see in many of my photos).

  • Streets of Bruges

Most of the neighborhoods in the city's old-quarter look just like this. Beautiful? Yes. But it also makes it very easy to get lost since one street so closely resembles the next.

  • St. Nicholas Church

GHENT This is the view from the top of the belfry seen in the previous photo.

  • Atomium

BRUSSELS The structure consists of nine giant spheres that are connected by escalators and a central elevator.

  • Stadshuis

LEUVEN Leuven's extravagent city hall dates back to the 15th-century. However, the 236 statues that cover its exterior weren't added until much later on. They each depict prominent scholars, artists, and nobels from the city's history.

  • Grote Markt Square

ANTWERP Antwerp is Belgium's second largest city. The decorative guildhalls in the background are typical of towns in the northern part of the country.

  • Prowse Point Military Cemetery

WWI BATTLEFIELDS The area around Ypres is littered with military cemeteries. Most were established on the very sites where the soldiers they honor fell during battle.
